Appium: Unable to launch WebDriverAgent because of xcodebuild failure: xcodebuild failed with code 65

Hi Guys

I'm getting closer but I keep hitting new problems. What I've done so far:

1. Uninstall and re-install appium with npm (no sudo)
2. Uninstall and re-install xcuitest-driver ( no sudo)
3. Copy new Appium to /applications
4. Launch app from /applications

This is a sim build so no certificate provisioning profiles are applicable unless I'm wrong, not sure what else to try.

Can you try running with showXcodeLog capability set to true and give a link to a gist with the logs in it? This should give more information about the failing build step.

Hmm. Yes, I can reproduce this in the appium-desktop app. @dpgraham any thoughts on why this would be happening? Seems related to https://github.com/appium/appium-desktop/issues/94 as well.

Actually, I've tracked down the problem with Xcode 8.3 beta 4. It worked with beta 3 but the latest from Apple seems to break things.

That would be the best course, yes. It is in the hands of an upstream project to get it updated, so it might take a few days. :(

I get this error when starts appium, but when I deploy WebDriverAgent to device from XCode it's successfully deployed.

I have found the solution for it.
Follow below steps:-

Go to /usr/local/lib/node_modules/appium/node_modules/appium-xcuitest-driver/WebDriverAgent

this path.

open WebDriverAgent.xcodeproj project in Xcode and do code signin at every place.

Build the application and make sure project getting build successfully.

Now you are good to go for app launching.

This problem has been solved inthe latest driver. Re-install the appium beta and you should get it. The problem was changes in Xcode.

@rajeev2 Not sure what you mean by "mdm option".

You can see what the problem is by manually running the xcodebuild command (it's in your Appium logs) or by setting the showXcodeLog capability to true. That should provide more diagnostic information.

I think we can close it. I reinstalled and built appium. Basically there were two folders on WebdriverAgent which was being built because of some reason.
I did npm uninstall -g appium and npm install -g appium and then built it again. Also upgraded 10.2.1 to 10.3.2.

I am new to this place and this is my first post on Github.

Here is the Problem that I am facing
I could run the Appium setup successfully on one of machine, while trying to setup Appium on another Mac it is always failing with following Errors:

ERROR:

Make sure you follow the tutorial at https://github.com/appium/appium-xcuitest-driver/blob/master/docs/real-device-config.md. Try to remove the WebDriverAgentRunner application from the device if it is installed and reboot the device.

I have followed multiple posts and have followed the procedure mentioned at:

Also I have tried various versions of Appium. Have uninstalled and installed them back numerous times but with no success. Currently I am on Appium 1.7.2 (beta)
Also as per suggestion I have uninstalled WDA and rebooted the device many times but with no luck.

Please Note that same device on another machine is working perfectly fine.

Can you please check and let me know what is wrong?

I can not find anything fishy with Signing because xcode is bulding both Lib and AgentRunner targets without any errors.

Please let me know if any more info is needed.

@vikramvi hey vikram, i tried #9035 but no luck, when you said Issue 2

(Documentation should ask user to install app on the physical device successfully first with help of XCode and if step is success then only goto next stop of installing WDA.)

Do you mean, User have to install the app via its source code and xcode? or can i install with itunes via .ipa file

I have no advice without logs (with showXcodeLog capability set to true, in the form of a link to a gist). These errors can have multiple causes.

Thanks a ton @chanugithub . One of the Apple certificate was set to "Always trust" in the Keychain Access. I reverted it back to "System Default" and all works fine now. Thanks a lot everyone.

I use Appium Desktop and try to create a session from the GUI, it installs my app on the device but then fails with this "Xcode error 65"...

The logs say Code Signing Error: Signing for "WebDriverAgentRunner" requires a development team. Select a development team in the project editor. but where would I select that team in which project editor?

It shows that:
The certificate used to sign "WebDriverAgentRunner-Runner" has either
expired or has been revoked. An updated certificate is required to sign and
install the application.
I think you have recreate your provisioning profile and install on the
phone.

After struggling on this error for some time, I installed the Appium (version 1.7.2) using the command line and my tests on real iPhone devices started to work.

Both needs to be setup in XCode with provisioning profiles.

I could see it earlier trying to connect, the webdriveragent was translucent background, but then came the quitAndUninstall exception and right back to the home screen I was

Not sure if this is related but I have seen instances which doesn't quit
gracefully leaves a zombie iproxy connection preventing the next set of
runs to begin execution. In those cases, please kill the iproxy processes
to the phone and try again.

@appiumlearner Check your xcode profile, and the whole web driver project. It returned the infamous exit code 65. Look into that.

I recently found out an internet connection on the iOS device is also a requirement for launching an Appium session. The things they never tell you

I've try to build the WebDriverAgentLib in XCode but it failed. The error is /usr/local/lib/node_modules/appium/node_modules/appium-xcuitest-driver/WebDriverAgent/WebDriverAgentLib/Utilities/FBXPath.m:313:37: Implicit conversion from nullable pointer 'XCElementSnapshot * _Nullable' to non-nullable pointer type 'XCElementSnapshot * _Nonnull'
