Appcenter: Feature request: Checking For Updates

Created on 24 Jan 2018  路  7Comments  路  Source: microsoft/appcenter

I'm using the Cordova Plugin for HockeyApp and I use the in-app update feature that HockeyApp provides:

hockeyapp.checkForUpdate();

This feature should be part of the AppCenter SDK for Cordova.

I understand that I can use CodePush with Cordova Apps, however updating any Cordova plugins requires distributing native packages.

Hi @blumk, thanks for reaching us and for the feature request, we've added it to our backlog and going to discuss and implement it in order of priority. I believe that in-app updates will be implemented via App Center Distribution: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/appcenter/distribution/

As of now, you can use CodePush to update your asset files and push notifications to notify that new binary version of your app has been released.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

@blumk Any update on this feature request on the roadmap.

Hey @dexter31, we can't provide any ETA yet aside from what is already on roadmap and iteration plan here

I would love to see this feature, or at least if there's some workaround on how to initialize the distribution service manually in the generated Android/iOS projects, that would be awesome.

I am being forced to migrate my cordova app from hockeyappsdk to appcenter and appcenter doesn't support distribute in cordova?

Isn't it reasonable to maintain hockeyapp support until there is something to migrate to?
