As in Firefox/Firefox focus can we add the ability to save a bookmark to the android home screen please? I use this in place of apps for things like Amazon direct links etc and its easier than bookmarks.

In Firefox go to the site you want click 3 dots

click Page > Add Page Shortcut

This then lets you add a shortcut (with icon) to the home screen for quick use.

As an addendum to this, it would be great if this feature included the Icon of the website too, FF does this but FF focus does not.

@BigNickBurgess Can I work on this? Can you assign me?

I'm not part of DuckDuckGo's team just a user with a feature request.

@BigNickBurgess Thanks for the feature suggestion; we have this on our radar to get tackled pretty soon.

@hjoshi123 Thank you for offering your help. At the moment, we haven't really defined how we'd like the community to get involved with the project, and haven't scoped out well enough our expectations for contributions.

Given that, and that we've already got plans for this feature, it probably doesn't make sense for you jump straight on this. We're hoping to work out the best way for community contributions soon, though, so there should be plenty of places you can help in the near future.

Hey all, thanks for suggesting this and for your patience.

This will be available in the next release of the app (probably next week).

Completed in https://github.com/duckduckgo/Android/pull/319

I'm looking forward to this feature as well! Any clues on when this release would happen? It'd also be cool if you have a non-Google release channel.

This is already released; I think it was version 5.8.0

You can use F-Droid or the GitHub releases page (https://github.com/duckduckgo/Android/releases) if you don't want to go through the Play Store

@CDRussell Thanks for the heads up! I just tried it, but the Add to home button does not seem to be doing anything at my end.

Is this because I am using Fastkey launcher? It seems to be affecting only when I am using this launcher.

I tried Nova launcher, Action launcher and OnePlus launcher. It seems to work as expected with these.

Add to Home does not work for me on Android 7.0 patch 5/2/2018 running on a Blackview 6000 with DuckDuckGo 5.10.4. It just does nothing when clicked on a site.

@arunsathiya thanks for reporting that. It could well be right - I haven't had a chance to investigate why it doesn't work with some launchers, but if it's working with Nova and Action, you're probably right that the launcher is the cause. I don't know if there's something extra we could do to support Fastkey or not, currently.

@sergiomt can you let me know me which launcher you are using?

Thanks @CDRussell My Home App reports Launcher3. No other launchers installed. It麓s quite an out-of-the-box phone.

I've created #365 to gather more info on this.
