Android: Auto upload folder path isn't visible past 2 lines

Created on 4 Mar 2018  路  11Comments  路  Source: nextcloud/android

Actual behaviour

When doing a custom folder setup in Auto Upload, after selecting the path of the local folder, the displayed path is visible only as far as the two lines flow on the screen, the rest is clipped. For me, it usually clipped it at the end of a folder name, so it made the impression that it's always a parent folder selected, and never the exact folder I selected in the explorer. Of course, this wasn't the actual case, but it remained frustrating until I went with it and tested it to see that it actually checks the right folder.

Expected behaviour

The full path should be visible, broken into as many lines as needed.

Steps to reproduce

Go to Auto Uploads and Set up a custom folder with a really long local path.

@mario @tobiasKaminsky @nextcloud/designers what do you think?
We could either to as described in the issue (show as many lines a necessary) or move from a end-ellipsizing to a middle-ellipsizing.

My personal vote would be to go for middle-ellipsizing since showing the whole path can get messy layouting wise

Agree with the middle, what about a long press to display a toast as well just in case?

Yes, middle-ellipsizing is a proper solution here. :)

@skjnldsv Toast are also limited to 2 lines by the OS itself so that won't help ;) Nice idea though!

So middle-ellipsizing it is :)

@arundhati24 maybe you want to take this one? -> middle-ellipsizing

@AndyScherzinger Can I take this one up ?

@harshika-arya sure, absolutely  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask, @tobiasKaminsky, @mario and me.

@AndyScherzinger I have setup the project locally and it builds successfully. Upon first launch the application demands for the "server address". Can you please tell me what to add in there ?
Thanks.

@harshika-arya well, you need a server (either by running one yourself) or by creating an instant demo server via http://demo.nextcloud.com/ (webUI for creating demo servers) and use the created instance (which will be deleted after an hour...)

Creating and using an own server locally is, in my opinion, the better option.
While it is a bit more work, you can do much more testing / debugging when you use a local server.
