Chrome OS (version 79) natively supports the VPN protocols OpenVPN and L2TP/IPsec, either with pre-shared key or user certification. Currently, the WireGuard protocol is not natively supported and there are no extensions or apps available. However, if your Chrome OS device supports Android apps, you can use the WireGuard for Android app on your device.

  1. If you haven't done yet, enable installation of Android apps on your Chromebook
  2. Via the launcher on your Chrome OS device, open the _Play Store_ app
  3. Find and install the official _Wireguard_ app, see Get Android apps and digital content from the Google Play Store
  4. After installation, open the _Wireguard_ app
  5. Add a Wireguard VPN configuration with one of the given options just in the same way as you would do on an Android device.
  6. After enabling your new Wireguard VPN configuration, click on the clock in the system tray. Now you should be able to see the VPN connection in Chrome's network settings, where you can also turn it off again.

@jackivanov Feel free to copy and adjust my text above as needed. Also added a few screenshots if useful.

'droid is not native!

The whole point of deprecating "chrome apps" is that there's not supposed to be ANY native third party code, it all runs in an Android container or a Debian container. If you want native ChromeOS support for Wireguard, yell at Google.
